(North Georgia Militia Leader Bill Looman was not lacking for support after his involvement in the botched Madisonville, Tenn., courthouse raid in 2010. But after being humiliated by a visit from the Secret Service and being kicked out of Oath Keepers, he needed a way to re-establish his virility, his self-created image as a leader. He found it in a northwest Georgia subdivision.)
As you may have gathered by now, the author of this series is the person who was working as a reporter for Examiner.com. One of the things he enjoyed about writing for the Examiner was that there's no "news room." He didn't have to go to an "editor" to get a story approved. If he waned to pick up a cause and run with it, he was free to do so, as long as he obeyed the rules about libel, etc.
That's why he could write letters like this, that he posted to the Southern Poverty Law Center through their website contact form.
I am a writer for Examiner.com. I would like to bring your attention to a case of militia intimidation, injustice and landgrabbing that is going on right now. Today. Unabated. We're talking about Bill Looman who made the news recently by his "No Hiring Until Obama's Gone" truck signs. When contacted by a member of Americans Against the Tea Party, his response was "I'll start hiring when there's no Muslim in the White House." When he was visited by WXIA-TV in Atlanta, however, that story morphed into "I'm just a po' misunderstood southern boy who wishes he could hire but can't because of that Obammer feller what they got in DC." And the media, of course, is running full time with THAT version of the story.
The real story, sourced, verified, confirmed, can be found in my reporting for the Examiner.

Those stories all originally had URLs attached to them. More about that later.
Looman needed to re-establish himself as a leader and as a man. The reporter made contact with several people who reside in the Beaver Run Subdivision near Waco in northwest Georgia and learned how Looman worked a deal with the landowner to install himself as president of the Beaver Run Landowner Association, using the owner's proxy votes to install fellow militia members into the board of directors and turning the subdivision into his own private militia training ground.
Those in the subdivision who do not toe the militia line are threatened with violence, eviction, liens or having their property burned. The first three stories in the list above provided deal with this.
The non-militia residents of the subdivision are not wealthy. They do not have financial resources to hire lawyers to fight the frivolous lawsuits filed by Looman and his lackeys.
They could have benefited from the resources of the SPLC. But the SPLC never responded.
And I was dismissed without notice from the Examiner. Not because of this story, which my "editor" loved. But because someone I was investigating in another story complained that I was writing things without checking facts. The Examiner didn't even bother to check with me to see if what I was writing was accurate, what or who my sources were, what I had in the way of proof or anything else. In my opinion, I was let go because the story involved the recall attempt of Wisconsin governor Scott Walker, in whom the owner of the Examiner, Philip Anschutz, has invested heavily. Can't have a fat, handicapped reporter messing with Mr. Anschutz's investment! I was summarily discharged and all my stories were erased from the Examiner server, which is why you cannot access any of the stories listed above.
If you have any questions after reading the stories I've provided you with, please feel free to contact me. Let's you and I make a pact that we will stand for these people in the face of violent intimidation.
Now, gentle reader, I ask you.
What will YOU do to stand with the non-Militia folks who live at Beaver Run? Will you take a minute to call your local TV or newspaper newsroom to tell them about this story?
Or shall we sit and wait until an innocent person is harmed or killed, or a stray bullet hits a child during one of Looman's self-appointed "protect the republic" gun parties?
